Kelly and Ryan in San Francisco garden after city hall wedding

Kelly and Ryan

Kelly and Ryan were married on June 7th, with a beautiful fourth floor ceremony at San Francisco City Hall.

These two met in 2013 in Des Moines, IA, and got engaged while they were camping over the 4th of July weekend on the north shore of Lake Superior.

Both Kelly and Ryan wanted to stay away from a big production for their wedding, so they thought they would either go for a destination wedding or for a city hall ceremony. After looking at several locations, including Salzberg, Austria, they both fell in love with San Francisco City Hall for its architecture and natural light.

They also both love the Bay Area, so their elopement would feel like an extended vacation beyond just the ceremony. They stayed in the Mission District near Delores Park before spending a night at the Half Moon Bay and Santa Cruz and then a couple of nights in Monterey before making the trip back to San Francisco.

By the time it came time for the wedding itself, Kelly and Ryan were feeling a little bit harried. They had walked from Chinatown to the Golden Gate Bridge the day before and were sore and sunburnt, and on top of that, Kelly realized during her hair appointment that morning that she had left Ryan’s wedding gift behind! Thankfully, she was able to get a silver tie to replace the one she left behind after a quick trip to Nieman Marcus.

As for the ceremony itself, it was quick, small, and intimate. Because neither of them are religious, they appreciated the inclusive tone and especially the fact that they were pronounced “spouse and spouse.”

From there, it was off to a few off-site pictures at the Japanese Gardens in Golden Gate Park. Ryan had picked the location after he visited there several times in his childhood and left with a lasting impression of the gardens.

Thank you, Kelly & Ryan, for choosing Red Eye Collection for your SF City Hall wedding photography. We’re so glad that you were able to enjoy the sights for your destination wedding and wish you both nothing but the best.
